The first report for the aging municipality pool inside Highland Park did not see a passing grade.
City Manager Eddie Faulkner reported to the city council at Tuesday’s council meeting that the construction company determined the plumbing is completely deteriorated.
“How the plumbing has been operating at the pool is unbeknownst to any of us,” Faulkner said.
The construction company, Carrouthers Construction, was contracted by the City for $16,000 to evaluate the existing structure and provide a plan moving forward, tried to put a pressure gauge on the plumbing, and could not get a reading, according to Faulkner.
The company is at the pool this week performing acoustic testing on the concrete to determine the elasticity and the longevity left of the pool structure.
The city manager added that the City’s engineering team (Myers Engineering) is preparing a report that if any remodels of the pool were to take place would the state health department require the City to continue operation or they were to move forward with a renovated operation.
A final report is expected soon, and a future council meeting will be held to determine the future of the pool.
Estimates have shown that replacing the pool with current commodities to cost around $9M. The same estimations show approximately $5M to renovate the pool.
In either scenario, a funding source has not been identified by the City at the current time.
