40 years ago serving the city of Mebane and its surroundings. For nearly 40 years, Carolina Plumbing and Water Systems has provided quality plumbing services to the people of Mebane and the surrounding communities.

Established in 1984 in the home of local residents Ricky and Janis Dodson, Carolina Plumbing and Water Systems has over the decades earned a well deserved reputation for professionalism, fair pricing and excellent workmanship on the multitude of projects the company has worked on throughout Region.

Today, the Dodsons’ daughter, Shea Dodson Wrenn, runs the company with her husband Glenn Wrenn.

“My parents started it all over,” Shea Dodson Wrenn said of the family business in a recent interview with Enterprise. “It was actually in our house. My mother was the main person taking calls, making appointments and so on. And my dad — he has a P1 (North Carolina Plumbing Class One) plumbing license — was the runner on the field. Then, as the company grew, he naturally hired more people. Where we are now is a building behind the house. But we started in our living room.”

Shea Dodson Wrenn oversees the day-to-day operations of Carolina Plumbing and Water Systems while her husband Glenn serves as the lead engineer and PJ Gregory serves as the on-site lead engineer.

“They work really hard for the company,” Wrenn said of Gregory and her husband. “So I just want to shed some light on them.”

Wrenn’s mother stepped down from her scheduling and bookkeeping duties at the company in 2018, while Ricky Dodson has pursued a new side career at Captain Rick’s Seafood, selling fresh seafood straight from the coast to Triad residents.

“It was kind of a whirlwind because of course you knew COVID had been here for a couple of years,” Wrenn explained. “It was late 2018 when we started – actually October when we started managing it ourselves. And when COVID was here, I kind of gained my first experience in the leadership role. It was just crazy to maneuver around with all the regulations and we were considered indispensable (employees). So we kept working through everything.”

Although COVID made it an odd time to take over her family’s company, Wrenn stated that the company’s workload has increased as Mebane has grown in recent years.

“It was just a crazy time,” she said. “But now that things are picking up again we’re just trying to keep up with the volume (of incoming projects) and provide the best possible service with good quality and just good work ethic from our technicians. Because I’m not going to send anyone into someone’s house – I have to make sure they can be trusted, and that’s nice.

“We’ve seen amazing housing growth here over the last 10 years,” Wrenn continued. “You just have to adapt to the times. In a way, my parents weren’t that big into advertising. A lot of people look for people this way on Google and, you know, going to different apps, different applications and different things, Facebook. So we tried to focus more on that. And I’m just trying to make sure we keep up with everything and do everything right.

Carolina Plumbing and Water Systems offers all types of residential and commercial plumbing services.

“We do all plumbing from source to disposal,” explained Wrenn. “We can work on your well pipes, replacing them, repairing them and helping you get your water back. And we build water heaters and well pumps. Instantaneous water heaters are a big deal for us. And a big deal for us is water filtration too. So if you have bad water, if your water stinks, or if you just think your water is too hard or too soft, we can come over and test it for you and set up the facility.”

“A slogan we practice a lot is, ‘We care about Carolina.’ It says so on our banners. That’s on our website. It is on our (business) cards. So we really want to make it clear to people that we’re really trying to stand by that slogan. We really want to take care of everything we do,” she added.

Carolina Plumbing and Water Systems serves customers across the region, from Raleigh to Greensboro and everything in between.

“We serve from Durham and Raleigh to Greensboro, Roxboro, Carrboro and Pittsboro. We also serve all of the surrounding areas,” Wrenn said. “We just want to make sure we maintain our credibility by how hard we’ve worked over the years to maintain our quality of work and standards. And if not, we’d like to know.”
