Jesse Chambliss is a senior at Caldwell County High School who acquired his work ethic and interest in plumbing from his grandad.

Chambliss is this week’s Associated General Contractors of Western Kentucky Technical Centers Student of the Week.

Going into high school, Chambliss knew he wanted a rewarding career that provided stability. He was interested in joining a construction company or starting his own business.

The Caldwell Regional Career Center provides training in various trade programs, and after talking to his friends, Chambliss decided to start classes in one.

“I was talking to some friends, and we decided we just wanted to get into plumbing together, see if we could do that,” Chambliss explained.

After starting plumbing classes, Chambliss discovered his interest in drawing blueprint ideas. He also put some of his training to work, helping his grandad on various projects around the house.

“I have been helping my papaw run piping for a water heater, a washing machine, and a bathtub in his house,” Chambliss explained.

Chambliss said working with his papaw taught him about hard work and consistency.

“It taught me how if you’re going to do something, finish it, like do it and finish it. Do it right the first try,” he said.

Throughout his time at the Caldwell Regional Career Center, Chambliss earned certifications in plumbing with the National Center for Construction Education and Research and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor.

Chambliss wants to pursue a career in plumbing after graduation.

“I want to follow the plumbing trade that I have training to go into for the four years I have been at the vocational school,” he said. “I think I just want to join the union or a company.”

Chambliss believes the classes he took at the career center prepared him for a future in plumbing.

“It prepares [me] to join, like, the union and workforce,” he said.

Chambliss said he’s grateful to his parents, April and Adam Chambliss. He’s also grateful for his teacher, Bill Eldridge, who has supported him over the years and helped him earn his plumbing certifications.
