You may have seen her dream bathroom renovations on Instagram (@actionplumber), but did you know that local family business Action Plumbing has a history stretching back 40 years?
Simon Read grew up around renovations and construction sites, helping his father, Mark Read, who founded Action Plumbing in 1983.
Mark’s partner in the business was also his partner Maureen and eight years ago Simon and his wife Sally took over the running of the business.
Their high standards of a job well done is why Action Plumbing has been serving clients for over 30 years.
As Canberra evolved from a large country town to a bustling city, opportunities arose for Action Plumbing to become a larger company. In recent years, Simon’s brother Dan has also joined as a senior apprentice. As the eldest brother of the Read family, Dan also grew up on construction sites and worked alongside his father and brother as a teenager.

Today, Mark takes care of his long-term clients and spends his free time outside playing with his grandchildren.
Simon is a fully licensed plumber, roofer and gas fitter and has made a name for himself in Canberra for his keen eye for detail.

“It’s about building relationships with customers. So over the years, if something breaks and needs repairing, we’re the first to call,” says Sally.
Sally steers the ship of Action Plumbing, providing business and strategic direction, allowing Simon and the team to work his magic for their clients.

“We show trainees the more glamorous side of plumbing,” smiles Sally.
