My caffeine addiction busted our garbage disposal.

We all have our bad habits, but one of the worst is taking our kitchen plumbing for granted. Have you ever stopped to think about what goes down the drain and how it affects our plumbing? You might want to, and soon.

My garbage disposal had a nasty run-in with leftover coffee grounds this week, and it’s got me thinking about plumbing more than ever before. By the way, my handy and currently disgruntled husband can attest to how miserable it’s been repairing the garbage disposal and pipes I took for granted one too many times.

But don’t garbage disposals stop drain clogs?

To a certain extent, yes. But rinsing big chunks of waste down your garbage disposal can cause major issues. Hard foods and remnants of food packaging can break down your entire garbage disposal system, which will run you about $300 to replace.

A garbage disposal isn’t a garbage can: a life lesson.

It’s probably safe to assume that most Idahoans rinse food waste from their dishes or empty coffee grounds into the sink as if it were nothing. Seems innocent enough, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, for me, it wasn’t. I found out the hard way how risky and expensive it can be.

Off the bat, excessive food and kitchen waste can lead to stubborn blockages and a visit from a Boise plumber. But before you reach for the liquid drain clear, you may want to think twice.

Sure, liquid drain cleaners can provide a quick and easy fix, but they’re no substitute for a licensed and bonded Boise plumber. Long-term use can wreak havoc on your plumbing and lead to bigger problems down the road.

Rinse & Repeat

Poor maintenance can also cause plumbing issues. Experts say we should have our plumbing checked out on a routine basis throughout the year. Just like how we go to the dentist for check-ups, we should prioritize our plumbing.

Even something like a tiny leak under the sink can lead to dangerous types of mold, floor damage, and even structural damage. Rather than put yourself, your family, your home, and your wallet at risk, have a local plumber look after your pipes as often as possible.
