Deep discounts on large appliances of up to 40 percent or more, historically a staple of the Black Friday shopping season, are back for the first time since the pandemic.

So if you’ve been holding off ’til now to shop for a refrigerator, dishwasher, dryer, or other large appliance—or a suite of appliances—now is the time to take advantage of significant price reductions. Major appliance retailers like Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe’s have already launched their early Black Friday sales, with potentially more deals to come during Thanksgiving week.

“So far, through the first week of November we are seeing an average of 34 percent off,” says Tatum Neubert, an analyst who covers refrigerators for Gap Intelligence, a market research company based in San Diego. That 34 percent average, which applies to all major appliances sold at major retailers, is up from an average discount of 28 percent last year, Neubert says. What’s more, her research shows the trend edging toward even higher discounts for Black Friday.

“You’re probably going to see discounts as high as 40 percent,” says Ken Miele, CEO of the Appliance Dealers Cooperative in Monroe, N.J., which supplies large appliances to more than 200 independent appliance dealers.

Vendors are able to offer deep, “instant” rebates at checkout—as opposed to mail-in rebates—because supply chains have recovered, and inventories are back to pre-pandemic levels, Miele explains. “Inventory is relatively plentiful,” he says. “There are very few holes in stock.”
