MARKED TREE – Mrs. Zettie Geraldine Duvall Hawkins, 93, of Marked Tree, was born in Morrilton on July 5, 1929 to Wade Lawrence and Zettie Francis Maggie Verdin Duvall. She took her heavenly flight on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Three Rivers Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Marked Tree.

She was one of 12 siblings. In 1944 her family moved to Manila, where she met and married Harold Hawkins. They were married 42 years.

Mrs. Hawkins worked in two sewing shops and was a great seamstress. She has the unique ability to look at a piece of clothing hanging in a window or on a person and go home and cut out a pattern from any paper she could find.

She enjoyed making quilts and continued making them until 2013. She made enough to give to her children and grandchildren and a few to sell. She also loved to crochet doilies and had the opportunity to make one for her whole family and sell some of them.

Mom once said that crocheting a new doily and looking up was not for her and that she spent most of the day sewing and sewing, singing to herself, reminiscing about special memories remembering their past or something stupid their children would have done.

She loved walking across the farmland with Harold or one of the boys looking for marbles, ancient artifacts or old coins and was so excited when she found one. When she retired (if you want to call it that), she worked at a grill truck a block from her home and loved it. She didn’t meet strangers and loved doing so until she had her heart attack.

She was a charter member of Sneed Street Baptist Church, which moved to Marked Tree and was renamed Grace Baptist Church. Mom loved her church. She sang in the choir, taught a children’s Sunday school class, and later taught an adult Bible study class.

She is survived by her five children Eddie Lee Hawkins (Ruby) of Manila, Francis Jane Hawkins “Janie” of Jonesboro, Manda Dean Ashcraft (Dennis) of Harrisburg, and Freddie Harold Hawkins and Danny Jerry Hawkins, both of Marked Tree; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Jean Duvall Grogan; a brother, Jerry Wayne Duvall (Barbara); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Harold Hawkins, her parents, four brothers, Virgil Wade Duvall, Jeffrey Doyle Duvall, Forrest Calvin Duvall and Kenneth Earl Duvall; five sisters, Nina Katherine Duvall, Gladys Lucille Duvall Russell, Altine Duvall Plunkett, Erma Jean Duvall Wright, and Hollis Lorene Duvall Russell; and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Stansfield Hawkins.

Funeral services are on Saturday at 2pm and visitations are on Friday from 5pm to 7pm at the Delancey Funeral Home in Marked Tree. Burial will follow the funeral service at Marked Tree Cemetery. Brother Harold McMickle will lead the service.

Pall bearers will be her grandsons Shondale Hatley, Eddie Hawkins Jr., Greg Hawkins, Freddie Wade Hawkins, Clint Eugene Hawkins and Eric Hawkins, and Eric Hawkins will be represented by her great-grandson Mark Austin Denny.

Arrangements are overseen by the Delancey Funeral Home in Marked Tree.
