SOUTHEASTERN NC — Every Monday, Port City Daily will report on upcoming government meetings in the three counties region. If there is a point of public interest, we include that under the listed discussion as well.

Monday, March 27th

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a budget work session at 1:00 p.m. at 1805 S. 13th St. The sessions can be streamed live here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Topsail Beach Planning Board meet at 10 a.m. at the Topsail Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd. On the agenda is the consideration of Todd Olson’s proposal to rezon 30 acres at the southernmost undeveloped point of Topsail to build 7 homes. Read PCD coverage here.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a special meeting at 3:00 p.m. at the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street. The purpose of this meeting is to review the Coastal Stabilization Project and any ongoing sewage projects. The engineers and staff assigned to these projects will be present to better answer board and public questions.

The Belville Board of Commissioners meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers at 63 River Road. An agenda was not published at the time of going to press. The agenda includes:

  • Update on the Belville Riverwalk project
  • Quasi-judicial hearing on the procedure for proposed changes to the text of the building ordinance Section 3: Definitions; Article 6: Zoning, Permitted Uses and Dimensional Requirements; Article 6: General dimensional, use and structural regulations for recreational vehicle parks and campsites.

Tuesday, March 28th

The Carolina Beach City Council will be held at 9:00 am in the Council Chambers on N. Lake Park Blvd. 1121 hold a workshop. Meetings can be live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Discussion about beach services
  • Presentation of the financial planning model for capital improvement

The Wilmington Housing Authority’s Community Outreach and Resident Services Committee meet at 3:00 p.m. at Rankin Terrace Place, 415 N. 12th St.

Review Board of the Southport Planning Board will be holding a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Nash Street Fire Substation, 111 E Nash St. The purpose of this Review Committee meeting is to discuss consideration of a partial abandonment of the alley on the property between 9th Street and Caswell Avenue. There is no public comment.

The Bald Head Island planning board will be holding a special session in the general purpose room of the Department of Public Safety building at 273 Edward Teach Extension at 10:00 am. The meeting can be streamed live here. The agenda includes:

  • Updating the master plan for the business park/analysis of the plan for the existing business park
  • Subdivide the highland portion of parcel ID 260JA006.
  • Split part of package ID 2600005 into two new packages, identified as QM-4 and QM-4A on the temporary label
  • Blueprint Braunschweig 2040

The Leland Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. in City Hall, City Hall Dr. 102; it can be streamed live here. On the agenda is the voluntary annexation of 20.35 acres along Chappell Loop Road, east of US Highway 17. This is a vacant and zoned medium-density residential community. If annexed, there is a proposal to change its zoning into multifamily and conservation districts. Also on the agenda is a discussion of tree preservation regulations and planting requirements, as well as proposed text changes.

The city of Burgau Hosts Public Feedback Session on Proposed Wall Ordinance at Burgaw Train Depot at 5:30 p.m.; everyone is welcome. The city launched a survey last week, which can be accessed here, and can be completed by 5 p.m. Monday, March 27. Read more about PCD reporting here.

Wednesday March 29th

The board of the Wilmington Urban Area planning organization meet at 3:00 p.m. at 320 Chestnut St., Wilmington. The meeting can be streamed live on Zoom. Some items on the agenda are:

  • A presentation by Wave Transit on ridership
  • A resolution approving the unified planning work program for fiscal year 2024
  • A resolution calling for NCDOT to explore alternative design options for improvements at the intersection of College Road and Oleander Drive. Read PCD coverage here.

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment Meet at 5:00 p.m. at 230 Government Drive, Suite 110.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will be holding a special meeting at 9:00 a.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore St. The purpose of this meeting is to meet with a financial advisor to discuss options for funding the expansion of the Mulberry branch’s wastewater treatment plan. There is no public comment.

Thursday March 30th

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. Commissioners will receive feedback on plans to expand paid parking. Read the PCD coverage here.

The Wilmington Housing Authority Finance and Development Committee Meet at 8:30 a.m. at WHA Main Office, 1524 S. 16th St.

The planning authority of the district of Neu-Hannover meet at 5:00 p.m. at the NHC Courthouse, 316 Princess St. The meeting can be streamed live on YouTube and NHCTV. An agenda was not published by the press.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a budget working session at the Harrell Conference Room, 230 Government Drive. Due to a move in equipment, the meeting will not be livestreamed, but the replay can be viewed on the NHC website and NHCTV the next day. The public can also attend in person.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a meeting of the agenda at 4:00 p.m. in the Government Center Conference Room 601, 230 Government Drive.

Friday March 31st

Brunswick County Education Board will hold a budget work session at 9:00 a.m. in the boardroom of the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices at 35 Referendum Drive, Bolivia. The meeting can be streamed live here. An agenda was not published at the time of going to press.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold an agenda discussion at 9:00 a.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore St. Meetings can be live streamed here. Agenda items include the Yacht Basin Mobility Study, Animal Control Ordinance, Rights of Way and City Charter Amendment.
