Teen escapes injury after losing control of car and landing on tree stump

An 18-year-old Clare man escaped injury after losing control of his vehicle, which then landed on a tree stump.

SA Police said at 10:30pm on Sunday the teenager lost control of his vehicle at Jolly Way, Sevenhill, before coming to a stop on the stump.

The man was charged with negligence and will appear in court at a later date.

“Even with the long weekend almost over, police will continue to target reckless drivers who choose to drive carelessly,” police posted on social media, along with a photo of the car.

South Australia has had a horrible start to the year, with road tolls already at 43, compared with 20 at the same time last year.

Two lives were claimed over the Easter long weekend, including a 16-year-old boy who died in an accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

SA Police said emergency services were called to Lake Plains Road in Lake Plains, some 40 miles south of Adelaide, after reports of a car crashing into a tree.

The young Strathalbyn man, the driver of a Honda station wagon, died at the scene.

On Friday, an 88-year-old woman from Campbelltown died as a result of injuries sustained in a three-car accident on March 31 in West Lakes Shore.
