A 67-year-old skier was killed Monday when he crashed into a tree at Princeton’s Wachusett Mountain ski area, officials said.

According to a statement from the resort, the accident happened around 9:25 a.m. on an advanced trail. The man was found unresponsive by another passing skier, state police said. Ski patrols “given the skier an emergency care and assessment before handing their care over to first responders,” officials said.

The man was taken to the base of the mountain, where he was pronounced dead.

“The entire Wachusett family mourns this tragic loss,” the resort said. “All our thoughts are with the family and friends of the skier.”

State police are investigating the man’s death, with the Worcester district attorney’s office overseeing the investigation, state police spokesman Dave Procopio said.
