EF1 tornado that swept through part of Rock Island on Tuesday, April 4.
To help with the cleanup effort, the city is offering free branch and tree debris pickup beginning Monday, April 10 through April 21. Residents are asked to place the debris next to the curb of their street or avenue. According to a city publication on Friday, street pickups will not be carried out. Residents should be careful not to block the sidewalk or street.
Waste does not need to be stacked or bundled, but should be organized as best as possible
possible. Branches do not need to be cut to a specific length.
The city will use garbage collection routes to guide the cleanup, beginning with the
planned Monday route. Workers will absorb as much as possible during normal work
Hours and pick up where you left off the next day.
If an apartment building has a large amount of debris, they are asked not to call the city – the debris
will be collected if placed at the curb in time for free collection. Uprooted tree balls and rubble are not permitted; Collection is for tree debris only.
Residents not using the free citywide collection must make an appointment
a free special collection. Special pickup rules apply as debris needs to be cut
four foot lengths and bundled.
Local residents should also be wary of unwanted tree services and contractors. It’s a best
practice not exchanging money with contractors until the job is complete. said the city.
