One injured after tree falls on Cary home, experts say now is the time to prepare for hurricane season

CARY, NC (WNCN) – Two people in Cary woke up in shock Thursday morning after a giant tree fell on a house, injuring one of them.

“Two people, one dog trapped,” a person can be heard saying when making an emergency call around 5 a.m. on Thursday morning.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Though there were no storms in the area Thursday morning, it marked the start of hurricane season, a time when tree felling services are seeing a surge in service requests.

“We usually get more calls, but we’d like to see more because people often wait until the last minute,” said Jeremy Tew of Arbormax Tree Service.

According to Tew, homeowners across the Triangle need to take inventory of their own properties and find any trees that could potentially fall during a storm. They can do this by asking a professional team to come by and take a look, or simply by becoming more familiar with their own landscapes.

“Everybody’s outside at some point, just mowing the lawn or cooking or grilling outside,” Tew said. “Just look around, take a look at your trees.”

Tew also says heavy rains in the area can loosen the soil and uproot trees. Homeowners should therefore be on high alert when such storms are forecast.
