Fruit flies can infest a variety of fruits and vegetables, rendering them inedible, including stone fruit, apples and pears, citrus fruits, strawberries, figs, tomatoes and peppers.

Fruit flies are a serious problem for home gardeners and anyone who owns a fruit tree or vegetable patch, but the pest also poses a threat to commercial orchards in our area, so it’s important that we all get on board and protect ourselves from fruit flies, wherever we may be.

Removing uncultivated fruit trees makes it harder for fruit flies to take root and spread, as it reduces the number of potential breeding sites.

The free fruit tree removal program is currently open to residents of the Campaspe, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, Moira and Berrigan Shires Shires and allows for the removal of unwanted or uncultivated fruit trees free of charge for the property owner.

If you wish to remove a fruit tree, contact customer service or visit Fruit fly control website Complete the application form and return it to the Council.

All tree felling work performed under the program is performed by fully insured professional contractors at no cost to the property owner.

The tree removal program is provided free of charge to land and property owners and enables the removal of uncultivated fruit trees and plants from orchards, private homes and public areas such as nature reserves.

The Goulburn Murray Valley Fruit Fly Area Wide Management Program works with the community, industry and government to improve education and awareness of fruit flies.
