An East Texas tree company has shifted its focus from just felling trees to tree survival and revitalization.

East Texas-based Treevival Tree Service, owned by Michael Gill, made the change after the 2021 winter storm. Opened in 1998, the company was so committed to tree survival after the historic storm that it changed its name from Gil Tree Service.

Gill said the change came from the destruction of the storm, based on his own personal experience.

“After the blizzard of 2021, things really took off on a personal level when our beloved oak tree fell seriously ill. In that moment, I understood that this God-given creation had become a part of our home, and if there was anything I could do to avoid having to remove it, I would do my best,” he said. In the end, it wasn’t to be, but this experience inspired me to make it our company’s mission to process every call in a way that protects the beauty of East Texas and our customers’ homes.”

“After the blizzard, we wanted to focus more on saving the trees rather than chopping them down,” Gil added.

Gill said East Texas is notorious for downed trees and the first priority is always the safety of residents.

“The first thing I do when I’m notified of fallen trees is to look for possible damage, remove trees from people’s homes and cars so people can get in and out when their homes are safe.” , he said.

“After this recent storm, we received a call in the morning after a homeowner explained that there was a tree on his home. When we arrived there was a pine tree on top of the house, through the roof and into the garage, two elms and an oak had also fallen onto the roof leaving excessive damage and multiple holes in the roof,” Gil said. “Broken branches from trees dangled from power lines surrounding the home and there was debris as far as the eye could see. We immediately removed the dangerous trees from the roof and covered the house from further rain damage with a tarpaulin.”

Gill said trees and landscapes are part of the human experience and he hopes to preserve them for families and communities.

“When residents contact the Treevival Tree Service in East Texas, they are speaking to a team committed to restoring our beautiful landscape. We are there for them at any hour and in any weather,” he said. “We hope that the fond memories of their children swinging off the tire swing will one day become memories of their grandchildren picnicking under the shade of the same tree.”

Serving both the Tyler and Longview areas, the company offers free estimates, affordable tree care and removal, canopy reduction, pruning, skylights, root fertilization, grouting, debris removal, canopy reduction and case-by-case removal.
