EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick recently earned the Tree City USA honor for the 45th consecutive year, the community announced.

The community received the award from the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to community forestry.

Last week, Mayor Brad Cohen and council members visited Central Elementary School to declare April 29 as Arbor Day in the community.

“I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden hearts and promote the well-being of present and future generations,” said Cohen.

During the event, music and singing teacher Maia Kauffman led the students in songs emphasizing the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment.

The community shade tree program, administered by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services, takes care of more than 30,000 street trees in East Brunswick.
