MUSCATINE — After Saturday’s brief snowstorm that resulted in much heavy, wet snow that caused some branches and even entire trees to fall, the Department of Public Works has announced that there will be tree and branch debris for the remainder of this week will collect from local residents.

To ensure their tree trimmings are collected, residents must call the department at 563-263-8933 or contact the department through the Muscatine Connect app to be placed on their collection list.

Prior to collection, residents must ensure their trash meets all required collection policies:

As spring arrives and residents begin gardening again, Public Works will continue to offer curbside pickup of grass clippings, leaves and other types of garden waste on residents’ regular garbage collection day, as long as such garbage is placed in the City of Muscatine yard – Garbage bags.

These official city bags are available at Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee Main Street, Fareway and at the Muscatine Transfer Station when that facility is open to the public. Other garden waste bags are not picked up at the curb, but can still be taken to the composting facility and received there.

Brush and branches less than 10 inches in diameter and 10 feet long, as well as larger trees and logs are also accepted at the Muscatine Compost Facility, located at the Muscatine Transfer Station at 1000 South Houser St. Residents are reminded that all material brought to the composting facility must be secured during transport to prevent loose material from falling onto city streets.

The composting facility is open Sunday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Non-resident and commercial users of the compost facility will be charged a fee for the garden waste brought onto the site. For more information on services and fees, residents can visit the Composting Facility page on the City of Muscatine website.
