The Territory Labor Government supports local businesses and creates jobs with the Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem Fund (AMEF).

Darwin company Steeline GRP is the latest recipient to be awarded a co-investment under AMEF.

The company is working with Charles Darwin University, Diverseco and local company Custom Works to integrate new manufacturing facilities to expand its operations.

The Steeline project will provide a total of US$3.5 million to increase the efficiency and capacity of the Northern Territory’s production ecosystem.

This includes an investment of $800,000 from AMEF and an additional investment of $1.9 million from Steeline in kind, support and manpower.

Not only will this upskill existing employees, but it will also create 10 new Territory First jobs in manufacturing, eliminating the need to outsource labor locally and internationally.

The project is expected to generate $7.25 million in additional revenue over five years.

Steeline is the territory’s largest steel roll former.

AMEF’s investments will support the expansion of capacity with new manufacturing equipment — including machines that can cut longer and heavier pieces of aluminum and steel and have the ability to weld in formation.

Steeline is the sixth Northern Territory company to receive investment through the AMEF managed by the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Center (AMGC).

Part of a five-year, $8.75 million partnership between the Northern Territory Government and the AMGC, AMEF provides grants for industry-led advanced manufacturing projects in the Territory across all priority sectors.

Quotes from Minister of Advanced Manufacturing Nicole Manison:

“The AMEF has begun to transform the territory’s production ecosystem in a short space of time.

“The co-investment fund is achieving exactly what it set out to do: create jobs, increase local capacity and drive growth across the territory, with Steeline playing a critical role in fostering local jobs, innovation and opportunity.”

Quotes from NT Major Projects Commissioner Jason Schoolmeester:

“The AMEF plays an important and complementary role in supporting various large-scale projects in the upper price segment.

“Steline’s new capabilities will arrive at a time of major infrastructure, investment and innovation projects for the territory.”

Quotes from AMGC NT Director Charmaine Phillips:

“Steeline’s project represents an important advance in the ability of the NT’s manufacturing ecosystem to enable major economic development and large-scale projects across the region – exactly what the AMEF was intended to achieve.”

Quotes from Steeline General Manager Tony Halikos:

“Our advanced manufacturing facility will house state-of-the-art automated metal fabrication technology and will be supported by qualified personnel possessing STEM skills not currently present in the NT.

“In short, we’re going to eliminate the requirement to outsource work offshore or offshore, while also creating more local jobs — it’s a win-win for the territory.”
