Local roofing company caught up in name confusion

An unfortunate mix-up costs a local roofing company a lot of business, WBRZ TV reports.

Based on Baton Rouge Apex construction and roofing says there have been problems since Alabama-based Apex Roofing and Restoration expanded its operations into the city.

Apex Construction and Roofing has been in Louisiana for the past five years on commercial and residential projects. Owner Canon Cockrell says business was good until things changed after Hurricane Ida.

“People started confusing their business with our business,” says Cockrell.

Day after day, the company receives calls or social media messages from angry customers. Cockrell says they try to explain what’s going on, but often the message doesn’t get across well and they lose a lot of residential real estate deals.

Adding to the confusion Apex roofing and restoration Partnership with Houston-based company McClenny, Moseley and Associates Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon called it fraudulent. Donelon’s office sent MMA a cease and desist order earlier this year.

Apex Roofing and Restoration states they were unaware at the time that there was another company with a similar name in Baton Rouge. The company continues to operate in Louisiana.
