The head of the Victorian Building Authority has resigned days after it was revealed some inspections were being conducted virtually.
On Thursday, the regulator confirmed that CEO Sue Eddy had resigned effective immediately.
Chief Risk Officer Todd Bentley will remain in this role until a permanent successor is appointed.
The authority did not disclose why Ms Eddy had resigned, nor did they provide any further information.
Earlier this week it was revealed that some sanitary inspections were still being carried out in addition to the physical checks.
The measure was introduced at the height of the COVID pandemic but continued to be applied years later.
The regulator was also under investigation over allegations of a toxic work culture after a longtime employee died by suicide in 2022.
Opposition spokeswoman for home ownership and housing affordability, Jess Wilson, called for a full and independent review of the agency to ensure it is operating effectively and protecting Victoria’s citizens.
“Whether it’s … building inspections being conducted using iPhones or a failure to ensure compliance by requiring builders to provide compulsory insurance for their clients, we see a VBA reigning in absolute chaos,” Ms Wilson said.
Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny has asked the Department for Transport and Planning for advice on the governance of the PLA.
