With the aim of supporting plumbers in their career advancement and improving the overall quality of Sri Lanka’s plumbing industry, S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Public Utility Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

In October 2001, the S-lon Plumbers’ Club was formed to establish and improve the standards of the modern plumbing industry and increase the professionalism of the plumbing profession. Plumbers have benefited from the practical and informative programs run nationwide by S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd which has a strong network of over 8,000 plumbers.

The main objectives of these programs are to improve the knowledge and technological know-how of plumbers related to the proper handling and installation of pipes and fittings. Improper handling pollutes clean water and clean air, thus affecting healthy life. In addition, proper knowledge of the installation would extend the life of the product while keeping it performing optimally.

As a sign of his commitment to the cause, S-lon partnered with PUCSL along with the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), which offers plumbing technicians the opportunity to become accredited as “licensed technicians” by measuring the level of the National Get Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) 3.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake and Group Director/Chief Operating Officer of Capital Maharaja Group SC Weerasekera were the signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed in Nuwara Eliya.

Group Director/Chief Operating Officer of Capital Maharaja Group shares his thoughts at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony. SC Weerasekera said: “I am honored and happy to give my recognition to the installer community who have helped us from the start to make S-lon a success story. This partnership with the Sri Lankan Public Utilities Association will undoubtedly raise the standards of plumbing technicians and thereby raise the standard of the entire industry itself.”
