ALBANY — A Washington County woman was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Wednesday for defrauding two banks by using the personal information of customers at her plumbing and heating business, federal authorities said.
Renee Burnell, 49, of Hudson Falls, has pleaded guilty to two counts of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft, according to US Attorneys and the FBI.
She admitted that between August 2019 and January 2020 she defrauded Synchrony Bank and The Bank of Missouri by applying for lines of credit from each bank, using her customers’ personal information and then using the lines of credit to fake purchases, which benefited their business.
She admitted her plan resulted in a $119,264 loss for the Bank of Missouri and a $13,912 loss for Synchrony Bank.
Senior US District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn ordered full return to the banks and also imposed a three-year supervised prison sentence.
The FBI investigated and Assistant US Attorney Alexander P. Wentworth-Ping was prosecuted.
