GE Appliance Warranty Review: Coverage and Cost

The GE Device Warranty Generally, insurance covers equipment that is not working properly due to a defective part or workmanship. Depending on the equipment homeowners buy, different elements that make up the equipment are covered for different periods of time.

In the next few sections, we’ll look at some key equipment and the parts that are covered under the GE warranty plan. We got our information directly from GE’s website and the company explains in detail their warranty coverage. Here’s what you can cover under each of your device warranties.

GE warranty for refrigerators

GEs Fridge Guarantee covers different parts of the refrigerator, depending on the component, as little as 30 days and up to 12 years. There are two coverage plans for different GE models and we’ve outlined the differences below. If you are not sure which model you have, use your serial number to locate the product on GE’s website.

During the first 30 days, GE will replace the water treatment system cartridge if it fails due to poor workmanship or a defective part. After 30 days, parts of this component are no longer guaranteed.

All other components are covered for the first one to two years from the date of purchase of a GE refrigerator (depending on model). The warranty states that GE will replace or repair parts free of charge if the problem is due to a defect in workmanship or a part defect.

GE provides a five-year warranty on sealed refrigeration system components, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, and hoses. Any part that fails due to workmanship or defective parts will be replaced or repaired under this warranty.

Some refrigerator models have similar coverages but carry a 12-year warranty. After the fifth year, only parts are covered by the warranty. GE does not pay the service call fee or service time for repairs. GE backs its ice machines with a one-year warranty that covers all parts and labor.

GE warranty for washers and dryers

GE offers a variety of warranties for its washers, dryers, and washer/dryer combos. Many have different coverage options. Visit GE’s website for more details.

GE covers any defect or manufacturing issue that occurs within the first year for all models. After that, washers have a different range. Some models will continue to be covered for the second year, but you must be prepared to pay for service costs. Doors, strut assembly, engine and engine control are insured against defects for years 2 to 5 or 3 to 5, depending on the model. In addition, depending on the model, the insurance covers a term of 20 years or the entire service life of the washing machine.

Dryers have a simpler warranty, with some only offering full coverage for one year and others still offering limited coverage for all items for five years.

GE Dishwasher Guarantee

GE dishwashers fall into one of four warranty categories. One category only includes a one-year warranty on all parts. Beyond that, nothing is covered. Each of the other categories extends the coverage of racks, the control board, the tub and the door panel for different periods of time.

GE Microwave Warranty

GE’s microwave warranties are less complicated than warranties on other equipment. As with other GE devices, performance issues are covered for the first year regardless of the cause. In addition, there is an additional nine-year warranty on the microwave’s magnetron tube. Additional coverage is for parts only, not labor.
